WAFIOS type FUL computer controlled spring coilers have been producing
springs worldwide for more than twenty-five years. For the oldest of these
machines, the availability of new spare parts for the computer has declined
to the point where they can no longer be effectively serviced.
So that our customers can continue effective use of these machines, WAFIOS
Machinery Corporation developed a replacement computer based on current
computer technology and components.
The replacement system has an industrial grade “PC compatible” unit with
active matrix color flat screen, sealed membrane keyboard, greatly increased
processing speed, memory and I/O capability. It is based on a
well-established forwardly compatible platform. The operator interface is
friendlier, back-up procedures are simpler, and the computer and machine
diagnostics are more comprehensive. Needless to say, the new system is more
reliable and replacement components are readily available.
The new computer can be installed on all existing WAFIOS series FUL spring
coilers delivered prior to 1993 and on certain later models that are
presently equipped with IBH computers. It is designed for plug-in
installation and will ordinarily require less than three days machine
downtime for installation and debugging. All work takes place on site in the
customer's facility and is performed by WAFIOS engineers.
Each machine to receive the new computer must be evaluated beforehand by
WAFIOS engineers. When we are able to inspect an operational machine, we can
accurately determine the machine condition before the user has to make a
final decision to purchase the new computer. In this way the user can have
confidence that any major repair costs are known before he proceeds to
invest in his old machine.
